Adventurers — it has been a whirlwind of a week. I took a last-minute trip to Italy, where I spent a year in high school, and it was AMAZING being back. I went with a friend I studied abroad with and we spent time in Rome, Viterbo (where we lived) and Terracina (an amazing beach town on the Tyrrhenian Sea).
Pics below (most were originally posted on my Instagram — follow along if you want to see what’s going on in real time!)
After a day in Rome, we spent two days in Viterbo and a day in Terracina:
Then I went back to Rome da sola before my flight! I literally spent six hours walking one day, going from the Colosseum to the Villa Borghese to the Trevi Fountain, among other places, on foot. Amazing.
For those of you who aren’t familiar, the Villa Borghese hosts some of the most amazing works of genius sculptor Bernini. Every time I see the one below, where Hades kidnaps Persephone, I feel like they are real people who have been turned to marble. You can see the veins on his arms and the indentation where he grabs her leg.
Canova’s lovely Paolina Borghese:
The building itself is as remarkable as the works of art it houses. Here’s a ceiling from one of the rooms — it looks quite small here, but it’s actually enormous:
And this glorious structure obviously needs no explanation:
I finished the trip with a sojourn at the Spanish Steps, where countless poets, artists and writers have lounged for hundreds of years. I even found a little section to myself!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
