My boyfriend and I have been on a number of trips together, and while the scenery and the people change, one thing does not: the rain. I would be hard-pressed to believe it is the statistical norm that two people could go on so many trips together accompanied by either an intermittent drizzle or monsoon-force gales. We always make the best of it though — in Bermuda, we played about 1,000 games of Rummy 500, and in Nashville this weekend, the city was just as adorable with a gray sky.
We were in the “music city” for a wedding (I didn’t know that was its nickname until I saw it plastered on the sides of a few busses and buildings), so we were actually busy for most of the trip, but we had some time to wander around the city.
ADD moment: You know how the Hard Rock Cafe always sticks out like a sore thumb wherever it happens to be? But if you’re in the middle of an extended stay abroad, you go anyway (and love it) because you can actually understand what everyone is saying?
One thing I noticed about Nashville was, it was the only city I have ever been to where the Hard Rock Cafe absolutely blended in with its surroundings. It fit in perfectly on Broadway, Nashville’s avenue of neon lights, karaoke bars, and cowboy boot vendors.
As excited as I was to visit Nashville for the first time, I figured it wouldn’t be the easiest city for gluten-free dining. When I looked up the restaurants near our hotel, more than one served chicken tenders and tater tots. Tater tots.
But I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the city, and there was an adorable little eatery right around the corner from our hotel called the Frothy Monkey that has more gluten free options than my favorite diners in NYC. I am actually there as I type this, since Mark is a groomsman and he had to go a few hours early for photos.
I’m debating whether to get another gluten free muffin (they’re really good).
Saturday night was the wedding, and it was absolutely GORGEOUS. Most Pinterest-perfect wedding I’ve ever seen with the most beautiful bride and groom. They were both so laid back the entire weekend, it made it really fun for everyone.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
