I rather foolishly made a high-stakes bet with my mom 12 days ago, wagering $500 cash dollars that I could abstain from processed sugar until January 5th. Oh, and that I would workout for at least 45 minutes, 5 days a week.
Whose terrible idea was that, you might ask? Erm…mine. I had just finished a juice cleanse and was on top of the world when daylight savings time (the bane of my existence) struck. All of the sudden, it started getting dark at what may as well have been 2 p.m.
Rain + perpetual darkness + leftover Halloween candy at the office (a.k.a. the gateway drug) = me downing a box of gluten-free cookies in one sitting. Not a pretty sight.
So I called up my mom, the only person in the world who I trust to follow through on such a long-term bet, and we made a deal. If either us violates the terms of our agreement, we owe the other $500. Simple as that.
I have to admit, it’s actually been pretty fun so far. It’s nice waking up each morning feeling a little fitter than the day before. And it’s always easier if you treat yourself to some new workout wear…
I’m totally aboard the Under Armour train, and actually find many of their pants to be mucho mas flattering than Lululemon’s — even the non-see through ones!
If you’re feeling funky, you can go for UA’s Snakey Legging, pictured above, or you can go with the equally sleek Quattro Leggings (not pictured). I actually prefer the latter for a day-to-day workout, but they didn’t make the collage because they weren’t quite as visually exciting…
Lululemon still has the edge when it comes to tops, though, I’ll admit. The back of the free to be bra above is top notch. Hardtail (gray top) is also a great place to shop for workout clothes, but I’ve found the colors don’t wear quite as well as their competitors.
Has anyone else made a high-stakes health bet, or been tempted to try one?
