So we’ve been making a point of getting out and about on weekends since moving to Dallas, and last weekend we decided to take a little day trip to Waco.
Why Waco, you ask? Duh, because we love Chip and Joanna Gaines, the stars of HGTV’s Fixer Upper!
For those who haven’t seen it, it’s about this adorable couple turning the most decrepit, crumbling-down houses in Waco into extraordinarily farmhouse chic revitalized homes. And yes, their store (the Magnolia Market) is as cute on real life as it is on HGTV.
It sounds dramatic to say, but their store honestly glitters in the distance when driving up to it. It is so well cared for and maintained in a city that — though it has a certain kind of charm — is seemingly dominated by homes with paint peeling off the walls and neglected lawns.
We bought a lamp and a wall ladder to complement the farmhouse chic look we’re trying our best to emulate. And I have to say, it’s kind of coming together despite our complete lack of interior design skills!
We also spent a day getting greenery for our little patio, and that’s coming along surprisingly well too! Our little basil plant in New York perished within weeks, but I suppose there’s something to be said for actual fresh air and sunlight.
We may have gone a little overboard…
If anyone has any other good day trips they recommend, let me know! Hope you all have a fabulous week!
